Sometimes healing from tragedy can lead to actions that help others, and country music’s David Frizzell is no stranger to painful personal loss. Yet thanks to Father Time and his own artistic talents, Frizzell’s managed to channel his efforts toward projects that benefit the world around him.
These days, Frizzell’s front-burner focus in his forthcoming single, “Say Hello To Heaven,” which will be used to raise awareness and money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Infused with the performer’s deep, raw emotion, “Say Hello To Heaven” was penned by musician/producer Buddy Hyatt. The compelling track recounts a heartstring-tugging tale of a wife and mother who has lost those she loves in a car accident.
Drunk-driving Tragedy Impacts Frizzell Family
Sadly, the song’s storyline is one that deeply resonates with the Frizzell family, who lost David’s niece in 1998 when a drunk driver ended her life on her 32nd birthday.
“My sister has never been the same since losing her daughter,” Frizzell told Suite101 via a Feb. 3, 2012, interview. “I don’t know how anyone could be the same. If I can contribute in even the smallest way to one person not becoming a statistic, then this is all worthwhile.”
Per Frizzell, 2012 is one that the country hit-maker—whose No. 1 singles include “I’m Gonna Hire A Whino” and “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a duet with Shelly West—is dedicated to doing for others.
Hit Artist Hopes New Country Single Benefits MADD
“I spent a lot of years doing what others told me to do because that’s what you have to do in this (music) business,” the two-time Academy of Country Music trophy winner said. “Now, it’s my time to do things my way and giving back is a top priority.”
At this writing, the Grammy-nominated Frizzell plans to enact a promotion that features the “Say Hello To Heaven” song. The promo, he said, will focus on the dangers of driving while impaired, as well as the good work that is conducted by MADD.
Fittingly, Frizzell will release his forthcoming single this year on the eve of Alcohol Awareness Month, which is April. Additionally, he noted, a portion of all music sales from the song will be donated to the nonprofit MADD.
